Form Six National Exam Results in Tanzania

Form six results 2020 were released early December by the National Examinations Council of Tanzania. This nationwide exam is taken by approximately 1 million students, and remains one of the most important exams in a Tanzanian student’s life, as it determines their admission into tertiary educational programs.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Exam Results

The exam was conducted between October 6 and November 28, with 134 centers being used. However, due to certain measures taken to slow down the spread of COVID-19, a number of traditional Education facilities were not in use this year.

Nevertheless, the measures that have been taken by the government of Tanzania, in tandem with the National Examinations Council, proved effective in ensuring that the exams went on with only a few cases of disruptions.

Results at Glance

This year’s overall results showed an improvement from previous year, with an overall pass rate increase of 3.36%. This is attributed to the students’ increased effort and preparation for the examination, as well as the improved conditions in schools due to health protocols.

The top three regions in terms of performance as commended by NECTA are Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Tanga. These three regions scored the highest pass rate of 97.1%, 95% and 93.6%, respectively.

The overall average pass rate for 2020 is 68.7%, a 3.3% improvement from the 2019 results.

This year’s examination results are an indication that Tanzania continues to promote quality and excellence in their educational system.

This year, Form Six National Examination Results in Tanzania have officially been released, with a total of 142,239 applicants having sat for the exam. The results come after a long period of study and hard work from the students, and many are pleased to have achieved scores that placed them amongst the top performers.

The results show a decrease in the overall Best of Four pass rate from 75.7% in 2019 to 74.6% in 2020, with a decrease in the Best of Four pass rate for boys from 79.6% to 76.3%. Pass rates for girls decreased from 72.1% to 73.1%. It is worth noting that overall, performance remains largely unchanged despite the disruption to learning caused by the pandemic.

In a statement, the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Professor Joyce Ndalichako said that the examination results clearly indicate that students of Form Six are improving academically in Tanzania. She added that the government remains committed to its vision of improving the quality of education both academically and functionally. She also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including teachers, supervisors and administrators, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the Form Six National Examination.

The examination results are celebrated by the students and their families, allowing them to progress to the next step in their academic careers. Students can apply for admission to universities to pursue the courses of their choice. In addition, many of the top performers will receive awards from the government for their hard work and dedication to their studies.
