According to Ferwafa, the regulatory body of football in Rwanda, the first game of the 2022–2023 season of the national football league will be played on August 19. Instead of beginning in September, the league will begin play in August. The Rwanda Premier League is the top level of football competition in the country of Rwanda. 1975 was the year that saw the birth of the league.
After the sponsorship was transferred to Turbo King, the league was rebranded as the Turbo King National Football League in 2013; before to that, it had been known as the Primus National Football League in 2004 and from 2009–10 to 2012–13.
After Tanzanian television broadcasters Azam TV were revealed as sponsors in a deal for US$ 2.35 million covering five years, the league was renamed the Azam Rwanda Premier League for the 2015–16 season. The new name will be used beginning with the 2016–17 season.  Azam TV has declared that it would not be renewing its contract with the Rwanda Football Association beginning with the 2019/2020 season.

The Armée Patriotique Rwandaise Football Team, sometimes known simply as APR FC or APR, is a Rwandan football club based in Kigali. The Amahoro Stadium serves as the venue for all of the club’s home games. In June of 1993, the club was first established as the squad representing the Rwandan Patriotic Front.
They have won seventeen Rwandan league titles, seven Rwandan Cups, and also the CECAFA Clubs Cup in 2004, 2007, and 2010 after finishing as losing finalists in that competition in 1996 and 2000. Despite the fact that they have a relatively short history, they are the most powerful and intimidating club in the Rwandan football league, and the Rwandan Football Federation is always under Army so they can run behind curtains.
